The Bronx High School of Science Alumni Association was created to foster, deepen and enlarge upon friendships begun at Science, to aid and guide present and former students, and to facilitate contacts between The Bronx High School of Science and the community in order to further democracy through free public education.

Among the important functions of the Alumni Association are updating graduates on news and achievements of classmates. Some of the activities are the publication of alumni newsletters for dues payers, support of class reunions, Gardner scholarships for excellence in English, and Mantel grants for service to the alumni office.The annual dues pay for the operation and expenses of the Alumni Association. All gifts above the annual dues benefit programs for current and future students at the high school such as technology the past ten years.

Founded in 1938, the first graduating class was in 1941. Within 10 years, 5 graduates would later be awarded the Nobel Prize in Physics. Two others joined them for a total of 7, a figure very few nations can match.

A short list of alumni achievements include:

• 5 Pulitzer Prizes (not counting team reporting)
• 5 National Medal of Science
• National Medal of Technology
• Past Secretary of Defense, Air Force, Navy
• Current President of Amherst College, President Emeritus of Columbia University
• Dozens who clerked for U.S. Supreme Court Justices
• 1% of the membership (selected by peers) at the National Academy of Sciences, National Academy of Engineering and Institute of Medicine
• Recent Executive Editor of The New York Times, Editor-in-Chief of BusinessWeek
• Others who are Rhodes Scholars, Guggenheim Fellows, MacArthur "Genius" Fellows,Chief Executive Officers (CEOs) of S&P 500 companies.
